Porter Louis Meriwether

Porter Louis Meriwether (March 16, 1940 – November 13, 2009) was an American professional basketball player.

Early Life

Meriwether was born March 16, 1940 in Evansville, Indiana. He played high school basketball at Lincoln High School in Evansville.

College Career

He played college basketball at Tennessee State University. He was a 4 year starter and averaged over 16 points per game for his career. Meriwether and TSU won the NAIA championships in 1958.

Professional Career

He was picked in the 1962 NBA draft by the Syracuse Nationals in the 3rd round as the 5th pick. (21st player selected overall)

He also played professionally for the New Haven Elms and the Hazleton Bits in the CSBL.

Meriwether scored 119 points in his NBA career.
